Dutchsinse provides the direct live video feed recording at Sakurajima on Thursday, and also says the following;

This volcano never ceases to amaze ! January 19, 2012 @ sakurajima volcano in Japan -- we see a VERY large explosive eruption that ejects lava onto the BACK SIDE of the mountain (camera near the road)... also... several eruptions in a row... static discharge lightning.. and large ash clouds can be seen.
